City Zoning Commission Meeting, Tues June 7, 2011

Mark your calendars and come on downtown to Be There… the Billings City Zoning Commission is meeting Tuesday afternoon, June 7 at 4:30PM, and the Billings Backyard Hen Initiative is on the agenda.

The folks on the commission will be making an initial decision whether to pursue drafting amendments to Billings city code which would clearly allow the responsible keeping of a limited number of backyard hens (no roosters) in clean, enclosed coops within Billings city limits. We’re excited about this opportunity to work with the city and hopefully get the ball rolling on this issue. The Zoning Commission has already done alot of work researching other Montana cities and their own hen ordinances (8 of the top 10 by population now allow backyard hens).

Billings residents will have up to 3 minutes apiece to state their thoughts – obviously we are hoping it is a “pro hen” case – although something as simple as “My name is Julia C. Childs, I’m a Billings resident, and I am asking the city to allow urban chickens” will help too!

The meeting is at 4:30PM at the City Council Chambers, located on the 2nd floor of City Hall at 210 North 27th Street, Billings. We look forward to seeing you there!
